Just heard a radio ad for a Mitsu dealer- you can now get a Mirage for under $10k with a 10year/100k mile warranty.

I mean, when was the last time you had to replace your toaster? Small appliances are pretty reliable.

I can’t imagine owning a car for 10 years.

For a brand new car? That's actually not a bad deal, assuming you only need it commute. It would make me think twice about a used car, even if the warranty is worth more than the car itself.

Brand new 2015 Mirages, 9k, that is ridiculous, I mean I know they aren’t great cars, but geez.

It’s not that odd. Here in the Netherlands the pre-tax base price of the Mirage is €7200 or so. That’s $8150. The base one will probably be even more bare bones than the US one, but it’s even cheaper.

Add 21% VAT and a €1800 CO2 emissions (read: fuel economy) penalty, and it becomes a €10.5k car here. Still not overly expensive.

In 9 years, I put 65k miles on my car. For this kind of warranty, I’d do it. If I put any more miles on a car, I’d say ‘hell no’.

They’re advertising them here for $9900. Pretty tempting.

You’d think they’d try to sell the 2015 for LESS than the 2017s...

6% on food. Anyway, most European countries have a VAT of roughly 20%.

That seems like a lot. US has those taxes but they vary by state, and sometimes county. Where I am, food tax is like 2%, but prepared food tax (i.e. when you eat in a restaurant) is a shade over 11%. Sales tax, or what you might call VAT, is somewhere around 6 or 7%.

I drove one and didn’t care for it (didn’t hate it though). But if I had to have a new car, for that price I could learn to live with it.

I agree it’s a lot. However, good infrastructure, accessible high quality healthcare and education, social security and other benefits aren’t free.

Yeah...so far a pipe dream here. I voted for Sanders in our primary elections and was fully prepared for any tax increases, but also hopeful for increases in quality of life, but many Americans feel like taxation is criminal, so a pipe dream it remains.
